Hamstring injuries are common in running so it is important to warm them up and ensure they are properly firing before you begin your session. Hamstring sweeps are our favourite way to do this. This is a travelling exercise that focuses on lengthening the hamstrings.

Before you start, give yourself 10-20m to move forwards. Take one small step forward and keep a slight bend in the knee as you drop your hips to push your bottom out and sweep your arms down towards your forward foot. You will feel a nice stretch down the back of your forward leg. Continue to walk forwards, changing sides and sweeping down with each leg.

This exercise isn't about touching the floor or getting as low as you can. Keep your range of motion comfortable; as you warm up, you'll find this increases.
