Use this guide to set up workout reminders so you get a heads-up before each run. Workout reminders are push notifications (alerts the Runna app sends to your phone), and they give you time to lace up, hydrate, and get out the door without scrambling. Workout reminders are available to all Runna users on every Runna plan.
Why Should I Turn On Workout Reminders?
Whether you're a morning runner or a night-before planner, a workout reminder from Runna lands at a time that suits your routine. A quick nudge beforehand means fewer missed sessions and less rushing at the start!
How Can I Receive Workout Reminders or Notifications?
To turn on workout reminders:
Go to Profile, scroll down and tap on Notifications.
Turn on the Workout Reminders toggle.
Allow Runna to send notifications to your phone. Your phone may prompt you to do this, or you can enable it in your phone's settings at any time.
Tap Reminder Time and choose when you'd like to get notified about an upcoming workout.
Once you've chosen a time, Runna sends your workout reminder on every day you have a workout scheduled or the night before depending on the reminder time you chose. Runna doesn't send workout reminders on days with no workout scheduled.
What Reminder Times Can I Choose?
Runna offers 6 notification times. The table below shows each time and which workout it covers.
Reminder time | Which workout it covers |
6 PM (night before) | Tomorrow's workout (sent the evening before) |
9 PM (night before) | Tomorrow's workout (sent the evening before) |
6 AM | Today's workout |
7 AM | Today's workout |
8 AM | Today's workout |
12 PM | Today's workout |
The reminder time you choose applies to every day of your training plan. You can't set different workout reminder times for different days, and custom times aren't available. If your routine changes, you can edit your reminder time at any point.
How Do I Change the Time I Receive Workout Notifications?
To edit the time you receive your workout reminders:
Go to Profile → Notifications.
Tap Reminder Time.
Select the time you'd like.
Your new workout reminder time applies from your next scheduled workout.
How Do I Turn Off Workout Reminders?
If you don’t want to be notified about an upcoming workout anymore, you can disable workout reminders:
Go to Profile, scroll down and tap on Notifications.
Turn off the Workout Reminders toggle.
You won't receive any more workout reminders until you turn the toggle back on.
What Should I Expect From Workout Reminders?
One reminder per day. If you have more than one workout scheduled (for example a run and a strength workout) on the same day, you'll get a single combined workout reminder.
Tap to open. Tapping the reminder takes you straight to your workout in the Runna app.
Timezone aware. If you travel and open your Runna app at least once in the new location, your workout reminder arrives at your chosen time in your new timezone.
No outdated reminders. If you reschedule, complete, or skip a workout before the reminder is due, Runna won't send it.
Why Am I Not Receiving Workout Reminders?
If your workout reminders aren't arriving, work through the following checks:
Check that the Workout Reminders toggle is on and a reminder time is selected in Profile → Notifications.
Check that notifications are enabled for Runna in your phone's settings.
Check that your phone isn't in battery saving mode, which can delay workout notifications or stop them arriving altogether.
Check that you're using the latest version of the Runna app, and update it if not.
Runna doesn't send a workout reminder if you reschedule, complete, or skip the workout before the reminder is due.
If you made all four checks but your workout reminders still aren't arriving, contact our support team through the Support tab in the Runna app.
