Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5km run that takes place at various locations around the world. It's a great way to mix up your training, meet new people, or even try for a new personal best.

Benefits of Parkrun

  • One of the benefits of incorporating Parkrun into your running plan is the social aspect. It's a great way to meet other runners in your community. The supportive and inclusive atmosphere at Parkrun makes it a great option for runners of all abilities.

  • Parkrun provides a great opportunity to set a new personal best. The timed nature of the event allows you to track your progress and work towards improving your time. It's also a good way to practice running in a 'race' environment, without the pressure and cost of a traditional race.

How to incorporate Parkrun into your Runna training plan

  • One way to incorporate Parkrun into your training is to use it as part of a tempo session. For example, if you have a longer tempo session, you could use Parkrun as part of your interval or intervals. We would recommend using the target paces in your plan. This will not only allow you practice your pacing but also to get familiar running at 'race intensity' with people around you. Can you stick to your planned pace and not get carried away by other people around you?

  • You can use Parkrun as part of your long run by simply running any extra miles before or after the event.

  • You could use Parkrun as an easy run; either instead of, or in addition to your regular easy runs. If you decide to use Parkrun as an easy run, you could simply adjust your schedule so that one of your easy runs falls on a Saturday. Head to 'Manage Plan' in your Runna app to do this.

  • If you would like to race Parkrun, then you can add it on top of your existing plan (note: make sure you are not making drastic changes to your weekly mileage) or you can adjust your schedule by dropping an interval or tempo session.

  • You can get in touch with us at any time via the support tab if you still need more help working out how to optimise your week to nail your weekly Parkrun and help you to achieve your next PB!

Overall, incorporating Parkrun into your running plan can be a great way to mix up your training, set new goals, and meet new people. It's an inclusive and supportive event that is suitable for runners of all abilities.
