The floating heel drop (or floating heel squat) exercise is a lower body movement that is great to do as part of a warm up. It helps enhance balance, stability, and feet and calf strength.
How to do a floating heel squat
Here's how to do this floating heel exercise:
Start by standing up tall with your feet slightly wider than hip-width apart.
Move on to the balls of your feet and move into a squat.
Lower your bum towards the ground to about 90 degrees, pause for one second at the bottom before pushing back up.
The goal is to stay on the balls of your feet throughout the movement, whilst keeping a flat back, looking straight ahead and holding a strong core to help your balance.
You can either cross your arms over your chest or, if adding a weight, hold one dumbbell or kettlebell in both hands at chest height. Start off with body weight until you are confident you have good balance and control though the movement.
