Connecting a Bluetooth-enabled heart rate monitor or wearable to the Runna App is a great way to get more out of your training, giving you a clearer picture of how hard you’re working.
With heart rate tracking, you can:
Monitor your real-time heart rate during in-app workouts or via Apple Workout Mirroring
Adjust your effort based on heart rate
Gain deeper insights into effort levels, recovery, and performance

How the Runna app uses your heart rate data
Once connected, your heart rate data is recorded and displayed in the Runna app during workouts. While your training plan won’t be adjusted based on heart rate, this information helps you better understand your training intensity and overall effort.
Connecting your wearable heart rate device
Check your Bluetooth settings
Before connecting, make sure:
Bluetooth is switched on in your phone settings.
Runna has Bluetooth permissions enabled (in your device settings).
Connect your heart rate device in the Runna app
Open the Runna app.
Go to Connected Apps & Devices and select Connect Wearable Devices.
Tap Connect via Bluetooth to start pairing.
Runna will search for nearby Bluetooth devices.
Select your wearable/heart rate device from the list.
Once connected, your heart rate will display during workouts!

Managing your connected devices
The Connected Apps & Devices screen shows all previously paired devices along with their current connection status. If a device is marked as connected, it will be actively transmitting data to Runna.
How to forget a wearable device
If you need to remove a connected device from Runna:
Go to Settings → Connected Apps & Devices.
Select the device you’d like to remove.
Tap Forget Wearable Device to disconnect it and remove it from the list.

Switching between wearable devices
You can only have one wearable device connected at a time. If multiple devices are available, you can:
Turn off the device(s) you don’t want to connect to.
Forget any device(s) you no longer want to use via Connected Apps & Devices.
Manually select the device you want from the Connect New Device list.
Troubleshooting connection issues
If you’re having trouble pairing your device, try the following:
Toggle Bluetooth off and on again.
Check your device battery: low battery can affect connectivity.
Close other apps connected to the wearable: some wearables can only connect to one app at a time.
Forget & reconnect: remove the device from your phone’s Bluetooth settings, then reconnect it in Runna.
Note: Unfortunately, we’re currently experiencing an issue with heart rate recordings from Powerbeats Pro 2 and AirPods during both outdoor and treadmill runs. This is due to a change in how Apple provides live heart rate data from certain devices and we’re currently working on a resolution. We really appreciate your patience, but please get in touch via the in-app support channel for the latest updates.
