What Are Workout Briefings?

Workout Briefings give you a personalized pre-run briefing tailored to you and your plan. They’re designed to help you get more from every session by explaining the goal of your workout and making sure you’re prepared for things like weather or terrain, so you can manage your effort effectively. We’ll also analyse your performance from previous sessions to give you personalized focus areas. Think of your Workout Briefing as a little advice from your coach before you begin.

How Do I Access My Workout Briefing?

Workout Briefings are automatically generated and become available from the day before your scheduled workout. To view your briefing, simply tap into the workout in your plan.

If you reschedule your workout after the briefing has been generated, the Workout Briefing will automatically update. This may take a few seconds, but it ensures your briefing stays personalized to your new schedule.

If you check your workout ahead of time, you’ll see a ‘check back before your workout’ message, or a countdown if it is within 24 hours.

What Does My Workout Briefing Tell Me?

Your workout experience has two sections: the Coach’s Comment and the Workout Briefing. Each supports your session in a different way.

Coach’s Comment

The Coach’s Comment is written by our human coaches and is attached to the workout. It explains the session structure, shares practical tips on what to prioritise, includes the occasional coach anecdote, and offers a motivational message to help you approach the run with confidence.

Workout Briefing

The Workout Briefing is dynamic and gives you context for today, based on your training and conditions. It includes:

  • Key workout focus and coaching tips

  • Insights from your previous workout

  • Weather guidance

  • Hydration and nutrition tips

  • Plan context (where this session fits within your training cycle)

FAQs

Are Workout Briefings available for all plans?

To access Workout Briefings, you’ll need to be on app version 8.16 or later. Workout Briefings aren’t currently available for New to Running or Return to Running plans, but we hope to include these plans soon.

Are Workout Briefings available for all workouts?

Workout Briefings should be available for all running workouts as part of your plan. Workout Briefings won't show for Instant Workouts.

How does data privacy policy acceptance work for Workout Briefings?

If you’ve already accepted the data privacy policy for Workout Insights, that acceptance will also apply to Workout Briefings.

If you haven’t previously accepted the policy, you’ll be prompted to do so in order to receive Workout Briefings. If you choose not to accept, you’ll continue to receive the existing coaching comments as usual.

What if my Workout Briefing is inaccurate?

Workout Briefings are personalized using your plan details, recent training history, and local conditions. If something in your briefing doesn’t look quite right, try the following:

  • Click the ‘regenerate’ button
This will fetch the most up-to-date information

  • Check location and weather settings
Make sure location services are enabled for the app and that your device location is set correctly, as this affects weather information.

  • Confirm workout scheduling
Double-check that your workout is scheduled for the correct day in the app, especially if you’ve recently moved or rescheduled a session.

  • Ensure previous workouts are logged correctly
Your recent workouts help inform pacing guidance and coaching context. Make sure completed sessions are logged accurately in the app.

If everything looks correct and the briefing still seems inaccurate, please contact us via the in-app support channel and we’ll be happy to take a look.

Will it affect my plan if I don’t follow the Workout Briefing?

If you’re unable to complete your workout exactly as suggested in the briefing, don’t worry - it won’t negatively impact your plan or training. Workout Briefings are designed to guide and support you, but your training plan will continue to adapt and progress as intended.

Takeaway

Workout Briefings add extra context and coaching insight to each run, helping you to understand the purpose of your workout so you can approach it with clarity and confidence on the day.

By combining plan context, recent workouts and your real-time conditions, Workout Briefings support smarter effort management and more effective, enjoyable training.
