Overview of Fitbit
Fitbit is a health and fitness brand known for its wearable tracking devices and companion app. Within the app, users can monitor various metrics like daily steps, heart rate, and sleep patterns. Additionally, they can set wellness goals and even share fitness milestones with friends.
By integrating Fitbit with Runna, you'll have the capacity to seamlessly sync activities captured via Fitbit directly back to the Runna app, ensuring that your actual performance aligns with your predefined workouts and plan.
Is My Fitbit Supported by Runna?
Runna currently supports any Fitbit device with GPS capabilities, i.e. :
Fitbit Ionic
Fitbit Versa 3 and up
Fitbit Sense and up
Fitbit Charge 4 and up
Runna also supports Google Pixel Watches with Fitbit such as Google Pixel Watch 2, 3 and 4.
Note: Check if your Fitbit uses “Connected” or “Dynamic” GPS, as both features can interfere with Runna’s run recording and reduce overall quality.
How to Connect Fitbit with Runna
To pair your Runna app with Fitbit:
Open the Runna app and head to your Runna Profile
Press Connected Apps.
Next, head to Connect Watch, and then select Fitbit.
You will be prompted to sign in to your Fitbit Account and then asked to accept permissions. Once accepted, your Fitbit connection should be displayed on the Connected Apps screen and you’ll be able to sync your Fitbit runs to Runna.
What Your Fitbit Can - and Can't - Do with Runna
Once your Fitbit is connected with Runna, you can record a run on your Fitbit and sync it to Runna after the workout. The synced run from Fitbit will include all metrics your Fitbit captured (heart rate, calories, paces, distance).
However, since Fitbit is a 'Lifestyle and Activity Tracker' rather than a sports watch, there are a few limitations to what the Fitibit connection can do with Runna:
Runna can’t send prescribed Runna workouts to Fitbit Watches. This means you’ll need to follow the run using the Runna app on your phone.
You won’t receive audio cues or live workout coaching.
You also can’t sync non-running activities to Runna.
FAQs
My Fitbit/Google Pixel Watch runs stopped syncing to Runna or it’s showing up with inaccurate data, what should I do?
If your Fitbit runs stopped showing up in Runna or shows up with wrong data (like the wrong distance) you can try the following:
Check that the Runna app is updated to the latest version. You can update your Runna app by heading to the App Store or Google Play Store.
Revoke access for Runna in the Fitbit app: Go to Profile (Fitbit app) → Your data on Fitbit → Manage Connected Apps → The Run Buddy (this is how Runna appears in the Fitbit app) → Revoke Access
Turn Fitbit connection off and on in the Runna app: Plan tab → Connected Apps → Watches → Fitbit and accept the permissions.
Can I run without my phone and only with my Fitbit / Google Pixel Watch?
Yes, you can leave your phone behind. You can start a run from your Fitbit or Google Pixel Watch, which will then sync back into Runna in your Activities tab. You can then link it to your planned run.
