Whether you’re chasing a new PR or just want to feel better after your long runs, Stretch & Stability is your new go-to for injury prevention, improved posture, and recovery that actually helps you feel ready for your next session.

This new activity is now live to all Runna users and available to add directly to your plan. So let's limber up and take a closer look at the newest activity in the Runna training planl

What is Stretch & Stability?

Stretch & Stability is a new guided workout series designed specifically for runners. Led by movement coach Fraser, the sessions combine active mobility, targeted stretching, and functional strength to help your body feel looser, stronger, and more connected both on and off the run.

Each session blends slow, intentional movement with purposeful control and breath, targeting areas runners tend to overlook: hips, hamstrings, glutes, spine, and ankles.

Over the course of 26 progressive sessions, you’ll build better alignment, control, range of motion, and most importantly, consistency.

Why is Stretch & Stability Good for Runners?

Think of it as movement maintenance. These sessions support your performance, recovery, and running longevity in five key ways:

Boosts Mobility and Posture

By targeting common tight spots, you’ll start to feel more open and upright, improving your stride efficiency and reducing tension.

Enhances Running Form and Coordination

Controlled, repetitive movement helps you tune into your body and develop better movement patterns, crucial for consistent form.

Promotes Recovery and Prevents Injury

Stretch & Stability supports circulation, reduces muscular tension, and gives your body a chance to reset after tough sessions.

Strengthens Small-But-Essential Stabilizers

Our Stretch & Stability sessions help strengthen the muscles that often go ignored but are critical for joint health and long-term running success.

Improves Mind-Body Connection

The mindful pacing helps you slow down, de-stress, and feel more grounded—ideal for recovery days or high-stress weeks.

How to Add Stretch & Stability to Your Plan

You can now add Stretch & Stability sessions to your plan as part of the latest Runna app update. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Runna app (make sure it is the latest version)

  2. Head to Manage Plan

  3. Scroll down to Stretch & Stability

  4. Choose your preferred day of the week

  5. Tap Save Changes

You’ll see your session appear alongside your runs, strength, and other mobility disciplines if you have them enabled. And just like everything in Runna, you can move it around to suit your week.

When should I do my Stretch & Stability sessions?

For most runners, one session a week is the sweet spot. Here’s when we recommend fitting it in:

  • After a tough session or long run: helps flush out tightness and support recovery without adding more intensity.

  • On a rest day: great for staying active while giving your body time to heal.

  • During a down week or post-race block: perfect for recharging your system while staying connected to movement.

Remember, these sessions are low-impact but still purposeful. So just like running, consistency is key.

How is Stretch & Stability Different from Mobility in the App?

We often get this question, and it’s a good one! Here’s a quick comparison:

Mobility

Rooted in yoga-style flows with an emphasis on dynamic movement and breath. Great for loosening up and reconnecting after runs.

Stretch & Stability

Think of this as functional movement for runners: a mix of active and passive stretches, targeted control, and muscular coordination. It’s about building better movement patterns, not just flexibility.

Together, they’re a powerful duo. And if you really want to round out your training, consider adding Pilates or strength to you plan.
