At Runna, we’re always rolling out new features to make your training plans more adaptable and customisable to your needs. However, we know that sometimes these new features can cause unexpected changes to your current plan and that isn’t ideal.
That’s why we’ve introduced Plan Versions—so when we release new features that affect training plans, you’ll have the choice to update rather than having changes applied automatically. This ensures you stay in control, and your plan only updates when you’re ready.
What is Plan Versions?
Plan Versions is a feature in the Runna app that gives you control over new updates to your training plan. Instead of automatically applying changes, you’ll have the option to update your plan to access new features that impact your training, or choose not to update and keep training on your original plan.
Don’t like the changes the updated version has made to your upcoming training? No worries — if you don’t like the changes, you’ll also have the ability to revert your plan back to the original version.
How does Plan Versions work?
Here’s how you can use Plan Versions:
1. Accessing Plan Versions
Go to ‘Plan’ tab in the app and select ‘Manage Plan’.
Directly underneath your Plan Name there is a pill and it will have one of two status:
Plan Up To Date: This indicates that you are on the newest version available for your plan.
New Plan Version Available: This indicates there is a newer version of your plan available.
If the ‘Plan Versions’ pill isn’t available under ‘Manage Plan’ you may need to update your app.
2. Updating Plan Version
Select ‘New Plan Version Available’. On the subsequent screen you will see:
Your current Plan Version.
The update available for your Plan Version.
What the update entails.
To update your plan to a new version, select ‘Update’.
Your plan will then update and any new features that have been rolled out since you originally created your plan will now be available.
This may cause changes to your upcoming training.
3. Revert Plan Version
To revert your plan back to previous version navigate to ‘Plan up to date’ underneath your Plan Name on the ‘Manage Plan’ page.
Select ‘Revert to previous version’.
Plan Versions does not allow you to revert back to a previous version of your plan after you make an update to any information used to build your plan (e.g., you change your estimated 5km time). It only allows you to revert back to a previous version after updating your plan via the steps above.
FAQs
What if I don’t see ‘Plan Up To Date’ or ‘New Plan Version Available’ under ‘Manage Plan’ in my app?
You may not see your Plan Version due to one of the following reasons:
App Version: Ensure you’re using version 7.8 or later.
Plan Type: Plan Versions is only available for race plans and distance-based goal plans, like 10km improvement plans, or marathons. It is not yet available for New to Running or Return to Running.
I don’t like the new version of my plan. Can I revert my plan back to the previous version?
Yes, you can revert your plan to the previous version if you’re unhappy with the update. See Step 3 above for instructions on how to revert your plan back to a previous version.
What type of features will updating my Plan Version unlock?
This depends on when you created your plan, but some examples of features that could be unlocked by updating your Plan Version are Holiday Mode and Training Preferences.
How can I revert my plan back to a previous version after I made updates to the information that lives under ‘Manage Plan’ that I inputted when my plan built for me (e.g., my running ability, my elevation profile, etc.)?
Plan Versions doesn’t allow you to revert your plan after making updates to information under ‘Manage Plan’ besides Plan Version. It only allows you to revert your plan if you select ‘Update’ under ‘New Plan Version Available’. This is because the purpose of the feature is to protect your plan from automatic updates that could happen as a result of Runna rolling out major new features in your plan.
To revert your plan back after making changes to other information that lives under ‘Manage Plan’ we suggest manually changing those inputs back to what they were prior to updating your plan. For example, if you changed your ‘Running ability’ from ‘Intermediate’ to ‘Advanced’ you can change it back to ‘Intermediate’.
