How to Connect Your Strava + Runna Accounts with the Joint Subscription

How to connect your Runna and Strava accounts after buying the Strava + Runna Subscription.

Written by Michelle

If you've purchased the Strava + Runna bundle and need help getting it set up or working, you're in the right place. This article covers how to connect your accounts, how to switch from an existing Runna subscription, and what to do if something isn't working as expected.

Looking for general Strava sync help? If you're trying to get your runs to sync between Strava and Runna (not related to the joint subscription), head to How to Connect Strava to Runna instead.

What is the Strava + Runna Bundle?

The Strava + Runna bundle is a single annual subscription purchased through Strava that gives you Premium access to both Strava and Runna. You buy it once (through Strava's website, the iOS App Store, or the Google Play Store) and it unlocks both apps. You don't need separate subscriptions for each.

How to Activate Your Bundle

After purchasing, you'll receive a confirmation page and email from Strava containing a link to activate Runna Premium. Follow the steps for your situation:

If you're new to Runna

  1. Click the activation link in your confirmation email.

  2. You'll be taken to the App Store or Play Store to download the Runna app.

  3. Create your account.

  4. When prompted, connect your Strava account to unlock Runna Premium.

If you already use Runna but haven't connected Strava

  1. Click the activation link from your confirmation email or success page.

  2. Sign in to your existing Runna account.

  3. You'll see a prompt to connect your Strava account. This is what activates your Premium access.

If you've already connected Strava to Runna

  1. Click the link in your confirmation email.

  2. Open the Runna app (you may need to log in).

  3. You'll see a confirmation screen showing your Premium access is now active.

Already Subscribed to Runna? How to Switch to the Bundle

If you're currently paying for a standalone Runna subscription, you'll need to cancel it (or wait for it to expire) before purchasing the bundle. This is because you can't have two active Runna subscriptions at the same time.

Your training plan and run history are preserved as long as you sign back in with the same account details you used for your original Runna account.

Option 1: Cancel your current Runna subscription first

  1. Cancel your existing Runna subscription through the platform you purchased it on (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Runna's website).

  2. Your Runna Premium access will continue until the end of your current billing period.

  3. Once it expires, purchase the Strava + Runna bundle through Strava.

  4. Follow the activation steps above, signing in with the same account details you've always used for Runna.

Option 2: Wait for your current subscription to expire

  1. Let your existing Runna subscription run out naturally at the end of its billing cycle.

  2. Once it expires, purchase the Strava + Runna bundle through Strava.

  3. Follow the activation steps above, signing in with the same account details.

Important: Purchasing the bundle does NOT automatically cancel a standalone Runna subscription. If you buy the bundle without canceling your existing Runna subscription first, you may end up being charged for both. If this happens, contact Strava Support for bundle-related refunds, or Apple/Google for app-store subscription refunds.

Disconnecting Strava

Disconnecting your Strava account from Runna will stop activity syncing between the two apps, but it will not cancel your bundle subscription or remove your Runna Premium access. Your training plan, run history, and account data are unaffected by disconnecting.

If you want to reconnect Strava later, go to Profile → Settings → Connected Apps & Devices → Strava in the Runna app and follow the prompts.

Troubleshooting: Bundle Purchased but Premium Not Working

If you've bought the bundle but something isn't right, find the situation that matches yours below.

"I purchased the bundle but Runna still shows me as a free user"

This usually happens because Runna hasn't received the activation signal from Strava yet. The bundle purchase is processed on Strava's side, and sometimes there's a delay before Runna recognizes it.

Try these steps in order:

  1. Make sure the Runna app is up to date.

  2. In the Runna app, go to Profile (top-left of Today/Plan).

  3. Scroll down and tap Restore Purchases.

  4. If that doesn't work, go to Settings → Connected Apps & Devices → Strava and reconnect Strava, making sure to sign in with the same email address you used to purchase the bundle on Strava.

  5. Log out of both Runna and Strava, then log back in to both.

"My bundle shows as active in Strava but not in Runna"

This means Strava has registered your purchase, but the link to Runna hasn't completed. Follow the same steps above (update app, Restore Purchases, reconnect Strava with matching email, log out/in).

If none of those work, this usually requires our team to manually sync the activation. Contact Runna Support with a screenshot showing the bundle is active in your Strava account.

"I get an error when I tap Restore Purchases"

This can happen if you purchased the bundle through a different platform than where you're trying to restore it. For example, if you bought through the web but you're tapping Restore Purchases in the iOS app, the app store won't find the purchase.

If you purchased via Apple or Google: Reinstall the Strava app, then tap Restore Purchases in Strava first. Once Strava recognizes the bundle, return to Runna and try again.

If you purchased via the web: Contact Runna Support with a screenshot of your purchase confirmation email.

"I already had a Runna subscription and now I'm being charged for both"

Purchasing the bundle does not automatically cancel any existing standalone Runna subscription. You'll need to cancel the standalone subscription manually through whatever platform you originally purchased it on (Apple App Store, Google Play, or Runna's website).

For a refund on the overlapping period:

  • Bundle refunds: Contact Strava Support

  • Standalone Runna subscription refunds (via app store): Contact Apple or Google directly

  • Standalone Runna subscription refunds (via web): Contact Runna Support
